FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

In order for us to really tailor your management according to individual needs we take 40 minutes for an initial consultation. A follow up consultation can be up to 20 minutes.

HRT is hormone replacement therapy and is first line treatment in the management of perimenopause and menopause symptoms, as per NICE guidance. HRT comes in various types and doses. A bespoke consultation will help identify your symptoms and determine which treatment is most suitable for your needs. Dr Gupta will provide a private prescription where appropriate (additional costs for any medicines will apply and are charged separately by the pharmacy)

Testosterone is available for women that still have lack of sexual drive despite using HRT, as per NICE guidelines. We will discuss the suitability of this during your consultations. Prior to initiating testosterone blood tests are required. Once initiated further monitoring blood tests are required at 3 & 6 months and annually thereafter.

NICE guidance does not recommend the use of HRT in women with a previous history of breast cancer. There are other options to help manage menopausal symptoms and we will discuss this fully during your consultation. Every situation is very different and if necessary we can liaise with your specialist or oncologist to help understand the risks and benefits further to help make a fully informed choice.

Menopause symptoms may last for several months or years with average duration of symptoms being around 5-7 years. NICE states clearly that there is no set time limit and HRT can be used for as long as the benefits continue to outweigh the risks, which is assessed annually or if any changes occur to your medical history. We will explore individual risks and benefits during our consultation to help your decision regarding the use of HRT.
